[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] My Inspirations... [Jul. 15th, 2009|09:06 pm]
Well I've had quite a few questions about what inspires me to do the
things I do and clothes I wear. I've been asked what blogs I read too
so I thought I'd use today's post to give a bit of a shout out to
people I admire and my favorite things! This is going to be a pretty
long post because I have a lot of wonderful people to talk about, at
the end there are random facts about me you didn't know so keep reading!

I'm also going to be adding to this over time too.

(All photos other than the one above credited to their original owners
and found via google images ^_^ Also these are all my opinions, I'm not
being paid to endorse anything hahaha!)

Styles that Inspire me:

Hime Gyaru
Hime style is what I'm most inspired by at the moment. The philosophy
is basically to live like a princess! Big hair, big accessories and big
nails, I love it all. Many people refer to this style as "Lolita's
older sister" because many Lolitas graduate to this style. It's
slightly more grown up but not much! I think it's less restrictive
though, I can wear beautiful high heels :D

Lolita
One of my first fashion loves was Lolita and no matter what I do I'll
never shake it completely! While I still love the over the top-ness
that is Sweet Style, after almost 5 years or so I'm moving towards
Classic styles. Still love my pettis though :D

1950-60's and Rockabilly
I love the music and the dresses. I may not have ben alive when it
happened but I sure love that style! I know it's oversimplifying it but
I wish girls still got all dolled up for a night at the Malt Shop ^_^
So classy and classicly beautiful. This cut of dress is flattering on
almost anyone.

Shops that I Love:

Angelic Pretty-
The ultimate Lolita store, enough said. I still love their accessories
and a lot of the dresses.
http://www.angelicpretty.com/en/
http://www.angelicpretty.com/

Jesus Diamante-
Jesus Diamante is to Hime Gyaru what AP is to Lolita. I looove so many
of their accessories and dresses. I would kill for some of their
shoes... so expensive though ;_;
http://www.jesusdiamante.com/
OC Nails-
Kathleen over at OC nails is a champion! They sell fantastic Konad
supplies and they regularly offer free shipping for orders over $20...
even international shipping! I've placed orders and the communication
is fantastic and the shipping was very promt. Proper review next time I
order :) Anyway if you need any Konad nail art supplies check them out!
http://www.ocnailart.com/
NailsEtoile.com-
This nail shop is run by Mitsue in Adelaide. She seriosly has some of
the prettiest and most creative designs I've ever seen! She's super
nice too :D Currently her shop is under construction but you can still
see all her tutorials here:
http://www.create-magical-nails.com/

Full Moon Deco-
Yuki runs this shop out of Australia, she sells lots of fake nails but
also she sells a lot of imported

Blogs that I Loooove:

In no particular order...

Create Magical Nails
This is Mitsue's blog, she writes the best nail art tutorials. She's
also my Princess Sister from another city ^_^ You might have already
clicked the link to her shop in the section above, if not check this
out because she makes the best acrylic nails I've ever seen!

come with being in the subcultre for a long time.

An adorable blog of a Japanese Lolita girl. I haven't gotten a chance
to read much of it yet but the pictures are enough to keep me coming
back!

Hey Lola
One word: hilarious.

Vestque's Creations

Groups and websites:

People/celebrities/models I admire:

Keiko Mizoe
Keiko is the ultimate Hime Gyaru. She is the top shop assistant at
Jesus Diamante and models for the magazine Ageha. I'm jealous! Ah can
you imagine an unlimited JD wardrobe at your disposal? *sigh* one day.
So I admire her because she works hard at what she does, she has style
and she does it very well!

James McDuff
Yep James gets another mention because he's awesome. I really do admire
him, he's so good to me. He has a great outlook on life and is always
positive when I tend to be negative. He's put up with a lot and we're
still together and going strong! Also I just enjoy posting unflattering
photos of him :D This was when he was cleaning the bathroom and I ran
in and surprised him!
To be honest as much as I'm inspired by the looks of some famous
people, the people who inspire me most of all are you guys! I love
reading your blogs and especially your comments, you all make my day

[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] [Jul. 13th, 2009|06:02 pm]
Yes that's right I'm blonde now... I finally took the plunge! All I've
got at the moment are crappy cell phone pics because I was sick all
weekend *again*

I was aiming for Ageha caramel blonde. It looks a lot lighter than this
in the light...

Unfortunately after bleaching for an hour and a half the black tips
were so strong that they are still dark brown, it looks like cool
gradation though... so hmm... I totally cant decide whether
I like it or if I want to just dye it back to red again. So I've
created a poll for you to vote on in my left side bar :D

Please excuse me looking like death, I was so sick and snotty!

Yay or nay?

Now on to my new nails! This is a Japanese technique called "paving".
Basically it's a silver base coat and then covered in various sized
jewels.

Very time consuming.

But I really love how it turned out!

Zomg where did my nails go? They're camouflaged!

What did you all do over the weekend?

[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] O [Jul. 10th, 2009|09:59 pm]
Sorry for the lack of updates this week, I've had a tummy bug! I'm so
sick of being sick but oh well *_* There is super big news at the
bottom of this post too!

So today ACEO Friday is being replaced by a special event! The lovely
Vestque has done some artwork of me, how exciting! She's taking
commissions where you send her a photo and she will draw you as an
anime character...

From This:
To this!

Here are the ones she did of me. I think they're adorable! You can
visit her shop here:
http://www.artfire.com/modules.php?name=Shop&op=listing&product_id=295629

And this:
To this!

So now my major news.. I DYED MY HAIR BLONDE! I've never been blonde
before so this is kind of scary for me, it's kind of caramel, think
Ageha with red-ish. And the black/brown tips are the same because bigen
never dies *_* You all have to help me decide whether to keep it or dye
it back red again! Stay tuned for photos soon!

[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] Tutorial [Jul. 6th, 2009|01:47 pm]
Morning everyone! As promised here is my tutorial of how to do the bow
hair style like this:

Firstly apologies that the photos are a little bit dark, I didn't have
time to do this during the day and work has been crazy busy so I don't
have time to edit all 50 photos right now *_*

Now let's get started! Firstly you will need to wash and brush your
hair, this style works best with clean hair. If you need to blow dry it
straight do that too.

Wow my hair is getting long!

Ok now you are going to need the following:
-LOTS of bobby pins
-2 Hair ties, preferably ones that match your hair. So you can see them
I'm using bright pink and white this time.
-A good hair brush
-Strong hold hair spray, especially if you have unruly hair like me.

- Lastly a hair dryer if you want to set your fringe. If you feel the
need take time to do some Charlie's Angels style poses now to get it
out of your system.

Okidokie. Now you've got nice clean dry hair, separate your fringe and
clip it out of the way.

Now pull the rest of your hair back into a pony tail. It needs to be
really high up on the top of your head. Think, popular school girls in
the 80's high.

I find it's easiest to turn upside down. Secure it tightly with a hair
tie.

Once you're right way up you should grab the sides of the pony tail and
put it until it's tight.

At this point you're probably feeling pretty stylish but soldier on!

Un-clip your fringe and take a section from the front of the pony tail.
This is going to be the middle bit of the bow so make it appropriately
sized for your hair.

I like to give it a bit of a pull so the ponytail moves forward a bit.
From the side it should look like this:

Now clip it aside into your fringe so we can make the bow part. You'll
be feeling even more like an 80's pop starlet now so take a few seconds
to have a dance.

Now you should grab the remaining ponytail and brush any knots out of
it.

Get your second hair tie and tie it as far down the ponytail as you can
without having lots of fly aways. Now this part is a little tricky,
when you do the last pass over of the hair tie, don't pull the ends
through completely, just leave them half way.

It creates a nice little neat bubble on the end...

And from the side you can see how it curls the ends under on the back.

Now what you want to do is fold it in half. Make sure to have some
bobby pins ready so once you've got it in position you can pin it
straight away.

You want it to look kind of like a fan.

Pin it very securely in place. From the back it should look something
like this:

And from the front like this:

Give it a good dose of hair spray and lets move on to the next step
before you run off and try to audition for an extra role in a Dr Suess
movie!

This is the point where it starts to actually look like a bow...
Seperate the folded hair into two equal sections with your fingers.

Squish the middle apart with your fingers and give it another quick
spray.

Unclip the section that was attached to your fringe.

Next brush it smooth so there are no bumps and knots. Get a bobby pin
(or two) and while holding it flat on your head, push the pins straight
across in front of the hair tie. What this is doing is attaching the
hair in my hand to my head so when I pull it up and back in a second
you won't be able to see the hair tie.

In the photo below I put the pins about 3 inches from my hand towards
the bow.

Next pull the hair up... see no hair tie!
Pull it backwards so it forms the middle of the bow.

Make sure it covers the second (pink) hair tie now and pin it in place.
It should be pulled fairly tight so it doesn't look like just another
loop!

Ok so we're alost done, we just have to get rid of that scragly bit on
the back. How you do this depends on how long your hair is.

If you have long/thick hair you should split it into two parts and
repeat the following steps on each side, if not just do what I do!

Take the last piece of hair and tease it a little. Nothing too
dramatic, just enough to give it some body.

It should look roughly like this:

Now take that section and twist it a little bit.

This bit is a little tricky, to show in pictures... you want to fold
the section in half so it's a little smaller than the sides of the bow.
Pick a side of the bow which has drooped a bit, I chose the left side.
Now you basically take the section and shove it into the middle of the
side of the bow you chose. To do this you kind of lift up the half of
the bow and stick it in the hole in the middle... Make sense?

Pin it so it's secure and so that nothing is sticking out of the bow
half.

Next fiddle with the sides until you're happy with how they're sitting.
And give it a last spray.
The back is still kind of ugly so I like to cover it with a real bow.
There's nothing a good bow can't hide :D
Pick out something appropriate..

Pin it in place...
If you need to, use the hair dryer to set your fringe in place...

And TAA DAAA! You're all finished :D Good work!

Very cute! Make sure to spend some time cam-whoring your new hair style
^_^

Hope you enjoyed this, if you have any questions just ask...

Or if you are completely confused here is an awesome video which uses a
similar technique to mine:

Let me know what you guys think!

Aceo Friday again, my how time flies doesn't it? This week I've got a
silly little caricature of Marilyn Monroe, this is what happens when I
have no real time for art.

This weekend I'm going to do a tutorial on how to do the bow hair so
look out for that on Monday.

I don't think there's anything better than a good cup of tea on a cold
day. I've just gotten some new lose leaf varieties and so I'm obsessed
at the moment. Mmmmm. what are your favorite teas?

Anyway here is the third contender in my Casual Hairstyle Poll...

2 plaits! Very easy to do, stays in nicely but has lots of fly aways by
the end of the day. This style is good because I can customize it
depending on my mood with an alice bow or bows on each end, my ownly
worry is that it's *too* plain...

Thoughts?

Well back to work!

[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] Aniv [Jul. 1st, 2009|05:00 pm]
Last night James and I went out for our 2 year anniversary. We went to
the same restaurant that we visited on our third date... Sizzler!

Ok so it's not the ideal romantic place for an anniversary but it's
history! All you can eat is totally romantic XD

Above- desert, below a selection of the yummy things we ate.

I made the best ice-cream sundae ever! While we were waiting in line an
old lady came up to us and told me I looked lovely, she then told James
that he should tell me I look beautiful all the time and he's very
lucky to have me XD Poor James! This happens regularly too, complete
strangers telling James he's luck to have me, it's very disconcerting
and I'm worried he'll develope a complex! Anyway, if anything I'm lucky
to have him, he is fantastic and treat's me like a princess :D

James looks all innocent after eating like a million plates of food XD
He felt so sick afterward poor boy! On the way home we saw a Koala on
the road, luckily everyone stopped and the guy in front of us got out
to help it off the road. Very cute, though I sure wouldn't have gotten
out, Koalas are surprisingly mean.

Ok now in continuing with the "Help Violet Choose a New Casual Hair
Style" theme, here is the next one...

It's basically a giant bow made of hair. Very popular at the moment in
Gal circles, unfortunately Lady Gaga also did it and I can't stand her.
Takes about 10 minutes to do, stayed up all day and I was lazy and
slept in it and it's still up today.

Hiding the crappy back with a nice bow. I'm not sure I have the face
for such a sever style though.

So yay or nay for this one?

[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] Happy 2 Year Anniversary! [Jun. 30th, 2009|01:03 pm]
I drew this last year to celebrate James and my 1 year anniversary and
it's just as appropriate this year :D

Happy Anniversary Lover! I love you even more now than I did then and I
didn't think that was possible!
You mean the world to me! You are the best thing that's ever happened
to me :D Here's to many more!

[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] Nail Art and Hair [Jun. 29th, 2009|12:13 pm]
Hello lovely readers!

Today I'm getting back to my roots and showing you the nail art I was
talking about last post. Very Hime-style and very over the top :D
Exactly my style.

It's been ages since I've done something this 3-d but I just couldn't
resist using these pretty flowers that I ordered a while ago.

The blue and pink polish was mixed with shimmer dust to make it a
little bit more opaque and shiny.
I love how they turned out, the only problem I have is that because the
little flowers are made of ceramics rather than sculpy they are very
sharp so I keep scratching myself :(

Lastly I've been trying out new hairstyles for when I cant be
bothered/don't have time to do a proper Hime pouf. I figured I'll get
everyone's opinion and then once I've done a few you can all vote on
them :D

So here's style number 1... The Giant Updo Pouf with Flowers!

Created by teasing everything except the fringe, pinning it up at the
back, spraying and sticking in flowers. Good for showing off earrings.

Yay or nay?

[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] ACEO Friday! [Jun. 26th, 2009|04:11 pm]
This is Tim. Back in 2005 I did a whole series of comics with Tim, the
poor little guy got into the worst situations. He had no friends but
was in love with a girl named Enid.

Ok I'm going to keep this super quick because I reeeeeeally want to go
and do myself some nice Acrylic nails, it's been FOREVER! And this
afternoon is going to be my only afternoon off in a while... so off I
go!

I'm picturing 3d ceramic roses and pastels :D And I've got a big
weekend planned so expect some pics!

[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] How to l [Jun. 24th, 2009|03:02 pm]
So as I'm sure you all know by now I've been sick with the icky flu for
the last week or so... Well I'm not one to sit around and do nothing
while I'm feeling gross. When I'm feeling my worst I cheer myself up by
trying to look my best!

Now as you've probably seen everyone is freaking out about the H1N1
Swine Flu. Personally I think that people are over reacting, I mean
last year the normal flu killed 3,000 people in Australia, so far Swine
Flu has only killed 2 and they were both very sick with other things
beforehand.

Either way I don't think it demands that people wear flu masks
everywhere and cancel large events but people are panicking so the
event of being forced to wear these I decided to make mine pretty!

A little bit of glue, a couple of jewels, some ruffled chiffon from a
Strapya lucky pack and taadaa! Creepy huh? It reminds my of something
Guro Lolita would wear. The photos didn't really capture it well but
the ruffle is all along the top and a very cute shade of pink. The
jewels are in the shape of a red cross inside a heart.

Look I'm in a B-Grade horror film called "Creepy Princess From The
Deep... Of Doom!!"

Watch out or she'll come after you while you sleep and steal your
jewelery! Oooowww *dramatic music*

Well I've had my fun I have to get back to work. I give lots of virtual
tea and chicken soup to everyone reading this who has the flu, get some
rest and rug up nice and tight!

Feel better :D

[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] Back! Out [Jun. 22nd, 2009|07:56 pm]
Firstly thank you all for your well wishes while I've been ill! It made
me feel much better every morning to wake up to everyone's lovely
comments :) I'm all rested up now and should be fine to blog 3 times a
week again!

Unfortunately I've run out of jewels to finish my decoden tutorial at
the moment but I'll be right on it when the next batch arrive! My next
post will be some of the things I've been deco-ing lately so you can
all get your rhinestone fix :P Actually I did something a little bit
funny with my deco while I was sick... I'm going to keep you guessing
until next post though!

Now on to my outfit... OMG I love these shoes. They are incredibly
painful but they look so pretty! Here is a close up...

Sexy right? The cut out bit is velvet so they even feel nice.

This brings me to today's topic... shoes. It may be hard to believe but
up until about 6 years ago I was the biggest tomboy you imagine. I
refused to wear skirts and you would be hard pressed to find me in
anything other than my scuffed old pair of converse chucks. In fact
that's where my old screen name chucks_bitch came from.

These are my newest acquisition. Cute but still comfy so I can shop all
day, oh and work etc. They were a birthday present from my Mum, thanks
Mum!

So long story short I missed out on those years where young girls are
supposed to learn to walk in heels and I'm just doing it now. I got the
first pair that I regularly wear last Christmas and haven't been able
to stop since. So much pain though! I'm very stubborn so I picked the
highest most ridiculous pair and assumed I would be fine... I have now
learned my lesson and am easing in much more sloooowly.

Mini Tutorial time!

Now a couple of people have asked me how I did this. It really couldn't
be simpler.

Step 1. Buy cute simple shoes on sale.
Step 2. Buy matching flowers.
Step 3. Get some thread and a needle and sew the flowers on to the
shoes. Note, don't sew through the leather just in case you ever change
your mind!
Step 4. Enjoy your new awesomely cute Hime-Style shoes :D

See easy...

Lastly are any of you guys who use Nuffnang having problems when you
log in? I can log in but I my stats won't seem to show up just
question... Just wanted to know if I'm the only one before I go and bug
tech support!

Anyway it's good to be back!

[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] Notice [Jun. 15th, 2009|10:26 am]
Hey guys, I've been pretty unwell for the last week so I haven't been
around as much.

I have to get back to work today but I don't want to over work myself
so I'm going to take a break from blogging for a few days.

If you need to get in touch urgently email me at violetlebeaux@gmail.com

I'm so tired though, having the flu is really crappy. My immune system
has been knocked around so much from the last 2 years of illness that I
manage to pick up pretty much every little bug that comes along... yay.

Anyway after having heart palpitations all week James has finally
convinced me to take it a bit easy for a few days. I even spent the
weekend in bed, those of you who know me well will know how painful not
being busy is for me!

To keep you interested here are some of the posts I've got planned soon:

-Decoden Tutorial, I'm covering my new laptop in jewels
-Hime shoes, how I decorated mine
-Inspirations and blogs that I read
-Sparkly photoshoot from the coast that I just edited
-All kinds of other cool stuff!

Talk to you all soon...

I don't really know why but out of all the 70 or so art cards I've
done, this is my favorite. This is Alice at the Pool of Tears. It's not
very artistic or well drawn, it's not well coloured and it's not an
original idea. It's still my favorite. Nuff said.

I'm not selling this but click it to go to my etsy store for others :)

[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] Nail Arts :D [Jun. 10th, 2009|11:59 am]
The OC Nail Art Konad competition is ooover! I had so much fun doing it
though, I ended up making like 13 or so entries. These are my latest
ones...

Tiger stripes and Kanji. I can't get enough of the sparkly orange base!
It's got tiny specs of gold in there which catch the sun really well.

Strawberries and cream. Mmmm makes me so hungry. I had permanent french
tips during this phase so I wanted to use them. I had also just gotten
all those delicious fimo fruit stripes.

I can't remember if I already posted these but oh well here they are
again! I did James' Mum's nails for Mother's Day. It's her first set of
acrylics ever and she loved them!
Unfortunately I still can't find a fantastic glue. She does a lot of
cleaning and she managed to snap most of them off within a week *_*

This was be just being lazy. I spent so long trying to get french tips
painted on nicely that I wanted to keep them as long as possible. I
kept top coating over and over!

Hearts! I love hearts!

We did a presentation at Neis all about websites and how they can be
good for your business. I decided to get some subtle advertising in by
painting Blue Crane Design on my nails XD
Here is the ring I ordered from Pretty Paris too!

And the last one... purple chains!

When I saw this tiny little delicate chain unlike a normal girl who
thinks "Wouldn't that make a prety necklace?" I thought "I wonder how
many top coats I would have to use to stick that to my nails?".

And that's all she wrote for now. I'm much too busy watching these
silly people going over budget on their ridiculous house on "Grand
Designs" to blog :P I want my own house, I hope Australia's property
market goes bust soon! Then again, from my time working at a bank I
have learned that they aren't exactly happy to give a mortgage to two
22yr olds even if they are incredibly responsible and could pay it
easily. Sucks because our rent is as much as a mortgage would be
anyway *_*

Curently this is my faaavorite outfit! Most of that has to do with the
fact that it includes my awesome shoes! They were on sale, so I bought
them and added flowers to make them Hime style. Much cuter!

I also found opaque stockings on sale a Myer for $7.50! And they
are *actually* opaque.

James also surprised me with this belated "Un-Birthday" cake. He made
it himself, how cute is it? Btw yes my real name is Nikki but I've been
Violet online so long now that I prefer it!

Loooove it! It was so sweet and yummy, we could only eat a tiny bit
because it was so rich.

This is just a quick snapshot, see I'm not glamourous all the time :P
It's getting cold here in Aus so at home it's comfy pj's and jumpers
all the way!

Ah I have the best boyfriend ever :D

So as most of you are aware I have been very lazy about editing my
holiday photos! No more laziness!

Of course we have to have the obligatory landscape shot to show how
pretty it was:

To be honest I'm not to big on birthdays... I mean wow I managed to not
die for a whole year? Go me! I would much rather be celebrated for my
achievements than my ability to not die :P

Look at my new pill box hat! I love it, James bought it as part of my
present :D

Long way down! I was fairly casual on this holiday, more of a retro
look than hime or princess. Fun style though!
I love over the top clothing but when you only have limited suitcase
space it's hard to pack more than one outfit!

We did *SO* much shopping. I had a blast.

See all this shopping?! Poor James took it upon himself to carry all my
bags all day! What a gentleman! XD Ok this was slightly staged but
that's pretty much what it was like all day!

James' Mum got me a Sally Hansen gift pack full of cool nail polishes
and treatments, how nice!

One more landscape :P
Well I had a great time. Did you guys do anything fun this week?

Oh also I can't remember if I already mentioned this but the second
article I wrote on "Choosing a Logo" is up on WomenWiseMarketing. If
you want to come read just clicky here.

Ok I know this is fairly childish but sometimes I like to play with
toys. Oh come on you have to admit that being a kid was pretty fun!

These are some toys I got in Japan, the rabbit (named Ichigo) was from
a series called “Sylvanian Families” that I had a lot of when I was a
child. I thought they had stopped making them but apparently not!
Everything else came our of a vending machine somewhere in Akihabara.

Here they are in their box:

And all set up:

I love the crazy detailing on everything, I mean even the sandwiches
have the fillings painted on the side.
Man I wish my picnics looked like this!

Mmmm giant strawberry cake.

So do you guys like anything silly and childish like this or am I just
a bit silly? Personally I think that sometimes when the rest of life is
stressful it's nice to have something simple.

Don't get me wrong I'm not playing with these guys every night in my
mum's basement but I do watch Judge Judy after work to unwind! What do
you guys do to relax?

[Violet ~ Tales of an Ingénue] Garden Party. [Jun. 3rd, 2009|10:00 am]
James' parents have an awesome garden! I still haven't gotten a chance
to edit my birthday photos so I thought I'd put these ones up while
you're awaiting. Blue Crane Design has been really busy so I won't be
online as much this week, or at least not online doing fun things :(

Very Monroe right? Damn wind always comes at the exact wrong time!
Typical James feels the need to take a photo of it. This is a nice
casual outfit. I've been doing so many crazy Hime outfits lately but
sometimes I'm just too tired or don't have time so this is what I
revert to.

I don't know why I like this one. It's exposed very badly and looks
horribly grainy. Kind of 50's though.

Cam-whoring :D
How awesome would this garden be for having a tea party? I want to go
to more tea parties! With tea and crumpets and cucumber sandwiches.
Needs MOAR sandwiches!

Such a long driveway! Who wants to have to take the bin out on Monday
night all the way down the bloody drive way! Stinky bin germs
everywhere!

Sorry guys this is a pretty boring post today, I've got lots of ideas
for new interesting posts I just need to have some time to sit down and
do something about it!
